Since 1992, the Escuela Latinoamericana
de Redes (ESLARED,
Latin America Network School) has made the difference in Latin America,
providing high level training in everything related to network
technology, and promoting the debate on crucial issues concerning
information and communication technologies and the region's development.
Under a participatory and free-software oriented approach, ESLARED
has been providing intensive training, in Spanish language, to the
region's professionals and technicians, facilitating the appropriation
of information and communication technologies.
Since 1998, EsLaRed decided to carry out Workshops
for Latin America and the Caribean (WALC). Previously, these workshops,
formerly denominated INET, were organized by an ISOC's
initiative outside Latin America. The first WALC was carried out
in Rio de Janeiro. Many of the present instructors and organizers
of the WALCs have been formed in the INET workshops.
